How to download a video from Instagram
Three steps, and the video is on your phone. If you are not sure whether your post counts as a video or a Reel, it does not matter here - both links work.
1. Copy the post link
Tap the three dots above the video and tap Copy link. A normal post link has /p/ in it. A Reel has /reel/ instead.
2. Paste it and press Download
Put the link in the box above. That is all we need.
3. Save the video
The video appears with its button, at the same size the creator posted it.
Is this a normal video or a Reel?
Look at the link. If you see /p/ it is a normal post. If you see /reel/ it is a Reel.
The difference is the shape. A normal video is closer to a square and appears on the profile page. A Reel is tall and has its own section in the app.
You do not need to work this out yourself. Both kinds of link work in the box above, and the video reaches your phone the same way.
How big will the file be?
A one-minute video is usually between 4 MB and 15 MB. That is about the same as two or three photos.
The size changes because movement takes up more space. A person sitting still and talking to the camera makes a small video. One minute filmed while walking through a busy market makes a much bigger one.
If the post has more than one video
Then it is a swipe post, the kind where you slide sideways to see more. One link covers the whole post, and each slide gets its own button so you can take only the one you want. The swipe post page explains those.

My link has extra letters after a question mark. Is that a problem?
No. Instagram adds those extra letters itself when you share a post, and they make no difference here. Just check that the main part of the link is complete.
Can I download a video I was tagged in?
Only if that account is public. Being tagged does not open a private account.
A long video failed but short ones work.
Instagram treats long videos differently. Try the same link on the long video page instead.
