How to save an Instagram story
Two things decide whether this works. The story must still be inside its 24 hours, and the account must be public. If both are true, the steps below are all you need.
1. Get the link or the username
Copy the story link, or just the person’s profile link. Even typing their username is enough.
2. Paste it above
Press Download to see what that account posted in the last 24 hours.
3. Pick what you want
Each story gets its own button, so you can take one picture instead of the whole day.
The 24 hours are real
A normal post stays up until someone deletes it. A story does not. After 24 hours Instagram removes it, and there is no copy left anywhere for us to find.
So if a story matters to you, save it the same day. If you come back on Tuesday for something posted on Sunday, it is already gone. That is true here and on every other website.
Public accounts only, and that will not change
This is the one rule we will not bend. Stories from private accounts do not work here.
When somebody makes their account private, they are choosing who gets to see their life. That is the whole point of the setting.
Some websites promise private stories. They are doing one of two things. Either they are lying so that you visit their page, or they want your Instagram password so they can sign in as you and look for themselves.
If you give a website your password, you have given away your account. Never do it. No genuine download site needs your password, because it only ever works with posts that are already public.
Will they know I looked?
Instagram shows the account owner a list of everyone who watched their story. Instagram builds that list when you open the story inside the app. It comes from the app, not from this website.
Using this page does not put your name on that list. But if you opened the story in the app first, Instagram added your name at that moment, and there is no way to take it off.
Your own stories
For your own stories, Instagram has a better way to do this than we can offer.
Open your profile, tap the menu in the top right, tap Your activity, then Archived. Every story you have posted is already there. Pick one, tap the button in the bottom right, and choose Save photo or Save video.
Use that instead of this page. It is faster, and it works even when your account is private, because the account is yours.
One catch worth knowing. Instagram changes some stories on their way into the archive to save space: a photo story with a music or GIF sticker can come back with the music muted, and a story that reshared one of your own Reels can come back frozen. Stories from the last 60 days are left alone. So if a story really matters, save it the same day rather than trusting the archive to hold it perfectly.

Can I save a story that has a song in it?
Yes, and the song stays in the video. As with Reels, the song has its own owner, so re-posting it can bring a complaint about the music separately from the video.
It says there are no stories.
Either they have not posted in the last 24 hours, everything has expired, or the account is private.
What about highlights?
Highlights are old stories that the person chose to keep on their profile. They stay up beyond 24 hours, so they work here as long as the account is public.
Can I save a story someone sent me in a message?
No. Direct messages are private, and this only works with posts that anyone can already see.
